A few days before Andrew got home we invited Sam and Nolan over to do some fingerpainting. We made some Welcome Home signs for Andrew and Nolan made a picture for Brian. The kids had fun, and it was a huge mess. Luckily, the finger paint was washable and it didn't stain anything.

Finger painting fun!
I know these posts are a bit out of order but things have been very busy (in a good way) since Andrew has returned from Honduras so you will have to bear with me as I play catch up!

Who does Abby look like?
Its funny to talk to people and hear what they have to say as far as who Abby looks most like. It seems llike my family and the friends I knew before I was with Andrew tend to think she looks more like me. And Andrews family and the friends he knew before he was with my tend to think she looks more like Andrew. I think these are biased opinions. Our mutual friends seem to be split and strangers think she looks more like Andrew. I tend to agree with the strangers, I think she looks just like her Daddy. I guess I was wrong and there is more of me in her than I really see. Check it out!

PS...Thanks to Sam for letting me steal yet another one of her ideas!!!

2 Year Check up

Since Andrew has been home we have been busy spending time as a family, so needless to say, I am VERY behind on posting. I couldn't let this one go any longer though. I have had these stats floating around on a random piece of paper for weeks now and I wanted to get them down on a post before I lost the paper!
I took Abby to her 2 year check-up on September 12th and she was deemed healthy and right on track developmentally. It was nice to hear that all of her little "quirks" are actually normal 2 year old behaviors! Go figure! At the end of the check up the doctor said "see you when she turns 3". I can only hope we will be that lucky, we'll see!!! Anyway, here are the cold hard facts...
Height: 33 3/4"
Weight: 25 1/2 lbs.
Head: 49 1/4 cm

A long awaited reunion
After a long 4 months Andrew has made it home safe and sound from his deployment. He arrived home on Saturday night and we greeted him at the airport along with about 12 of his coworkers and their families. It is wonderful having him home again. Abby was a bit shy with him the first night. This may have been due to the fact that he was gone for so long, or that he had shaved his head and it was past her bedtime. Probably a combination of it all. The shyness did not last very long. She has been attached to Daddy's hip ever since, she has even told me to go away! Its wonderful seeing her bond with her Daddy but I can't help but feel a little jealous. After all, I am the one who has been taking care of her for the past 4 months. Andrew has 2 weeks off before he has to go back to work and we are enjoying time as a family. We thought about going on a little mini-vacation but opted to stay home instead. Its nice being able to be home and just enjoy the day to day and this way Andrew is able to get a glimpse of what our life is like while he is at work! Thank you to everyone who helped us out, kept us company, and prayed for us while he was gone!

Sam...you are busted!!
I left my darling daughter over at Sam's house for a few hours so I could clean the house for Andrew's return. I thought she was such a wonderful friend for being so generous, and helping me out! Little did I know she was brain washing Abby! ;) I found the following clip on my camera:
After hours of trying to fix the wrong doing, Abby is finally cured and she now remembers who the real football teams are: The Broncos and The Packers....in that order!!! Ok, in all seriousness, thank you Sam, for watching Abby this afternoon...I really appreciate it! And, we will cheer for the Rams as long as they aren't playing the Broncos, or the Packers! Or, the Jets, or the Patriots....Oh, heck who am I kidding?? :)

An age old question finally answered!
Abby and I were at Publix today shopping for some food, saying hello to the lobsters, and generally annoying everyone else in the store with our unorganized shopping style and large cart that lacks in turning radius! Anyway, we were happily shopping along when one of the greatest debates was finally solved.
Here is a little background on the story. A few months ago we had the McMenamy's over for dinner and there was a question as to whether or not the buns we had were rotten, or if they just had flour on them. I am a big baby when it comes to this stuff and I just throw things out at the first sign of spoilage, or anything that can be construed as such. Anyway, Brian, being the logical one in the group asked to see the bread because he wanted to know what color twisty tie it had. We all looked at him like he was crazy and he went on to explain that the color of the twisty tie somehow indicates how fresh the bread is. We all thought he was full of bologna and the continued to give him a hard time about it for the rest of the night and for weeks to come. Brian stuck by to his guns and soon we forgot the twisty tie debacle.
That is, until today. As I said, we were happily shopping along and I remembered I needed bread because this morning I was going to make toast and saw a speck of mold and threw the rest of the loaf away. As I was comparing the different kinds of bread I happened upon the following sign:

I couldn't believe it! I was standing in the bread aisle with my car shopping cart full of food, a toddler with cookie all over her face, cracking up. I then proceeded to pull my camera out of the diaper bag (I was so happy I had it with me!) and took a picture of the sign. By then I am sure the other shoppers quit being annoyed by me and felt sorry for me. I am sure they thought I should be committed. I was a crazed woman, with a toddler, laughing my butt off, taking pictures of bread!!! If I had seen me, I would have turned and ran the other way.
Bottom line is....Brian was right and we were wrong and here is the evidence to prove it!

Daddy's coming home soon?!?!?
So, for those of you haven't heard Andrew is scheduled to return to sunny Florida this Saturday. We can not wait to have him home. I'm really trying not to get too excited for fear things might change (you know how the AF is) and because the more excited I get, the more the days seem to drag on. Andrew made the mistake of telling Abby that he would be home soon a few days ago over the phone. We were at WalMart at the time and the whole time we were shopping she was excitedly saying "Daddy home soon, Daddy home!" When we pulled up to the house her little face lit up and she said "Daddy home!" I tried to explain to her that he wasn't home yet, but that he would be home soon, in a few days. I thought this had satisfied her but yesterday on the way home from MDO, she asked. "Daddy home?" Again, I replied he would be home in a few days. It didn't do the trick this time and in a very sad voice, she said, "Daddy home please. Daddy come to Abby's house!" It is heartbreaking to hear your child ask for something they can't have, especially when that something is parent. It is an impossible thing to explain. I guess I should count myself lucky because up until about a week ago, anytime she would ask for Daddy I would tell her he was at work and she seemed ok with that answer and would move onto something else. The short answer is no longer working, but in 4 days he will be home and our family will be complete once again!
